byf in the communityBarrington Youth Football is committed to improving the quality of life in the communities where we live and play. The program also believes in our responsibility to serve those less fortunate or in need through participation in a variety of volunteer activities meant to positively impact those in and around the greater Chicagoland area. As a program over the years we have made regular donations of used equipment and apparel to inner-city youth football programs, as well as a program for youth in Africa to educate them on the game of American football. Through these donations players that may not have been able to play football are able to participate in this great team sport. Barrington Youth Football is committed to initiatives and efforts that will positively impact not only those we are serving or supporting but our participants as well. All of our players and coaches are encouraged to donate their time and talent in support of a wide range of community events, fund-raising efforts, and charitable causes. Examples of work activities include working in soup kitchens, packaging “care packages” for victims of natural disasters, and performing repairs and clean up at schools as part of the Big Shoulders initiative. The concept of “giving back” is one of the cornerstones of Barrington Youth Football’s Sports Leader initiative which is meant to move beyond football to reinforce the values we are attempting to instill in our children. Starting with Respect, Humility, and Courage, our athletes are taught the qualities critical to becoming successful servant leaders. We will highlight examples of those efforts in this space over the course of the 2010 season. If you have project ideas or stories of giving you would like to share, please feel free to contact Barrington Youth Football via email at board@barringtonbroncos.com.
SUMMER 2010 St. Mathias Community Service Outing This past summer over 40 BYF players and coaches participated in an event sponsored by The Big Shoulders Fund at St. Mathias school in Chicago. The boys donated one of their summer days of “freedom” to the effort and worked hard in cleaning, painting, and planting around the school grounds. School administrators were effusive in their praise of the boys and wrapped up the day by commenting on how proud the Barrington community must be of their willingness to give of themselves for the benefit of others. We most definitely are – great job boys!
BYF FLAG FOOTBALL 2010 BLACK DIVISION VIKINGS Serving the community with a food drive for FISH Food Pantry In September, the 2010 Black Division Vikings did there part to serve the community by organizing a food drive for the FISH (Friend, I Shall Help) Food Pantry. FISH is an organization of volunteers helping people in emergency situations. FISH serves the community through the following efforts: FOOD PANTRY - Folks who need food may come to the Pantry and receive food to tide them over in the short term. They refer them to the appropriate government agencies to help them on a long-term basis. Last year FISH helped over 300 families per month.
OTHER NEEDS - FISH is called on in many emergencies and will help in any way we can. If it is possible for them to be of assistance, we act the part of the good neighbor.
WE SERVE - FISH's clients are primarily: families or individuals who need to supplement their food supply on an emergency basis because of loss of jobs, illness or emergencies such as a house fire. Lower income citizens, such as senior citizens living on low fixed incomes, or single parents who cannot work because of small children at home. FISH receives referrals from the Department of Public Aid, the Dundee Township Supervisors Office, churches and social service agencies. They serve residents of Dundee Township and most of School District 300. BYF is proud of the community service the 2010 Black Division Vikings participated in this year. There efforts and the efforts of our volunteer coaches prove once again why BYF is more than just another youth sports program. GREAT WORK VIKINGS!!!!! |
